Good Morning,
Can instructors and students change their display name in canvas?

I tried to edit my own display name this morning and I do not have access to this option. I am sure I can email someone to change my display name in the system. Please direct me to who I should contact.

Do students have the edit function to change their display name in canvas? If so, please let me know. If not, why not? Many students prefer to be acknowledged by a nick name or another name. Please advise.

Nicole,

For instructors, please contact me to changed your display name in Canvas. 

For students, it's easier. Canvas picks up their "preferred name" in MyDelta and uses it for the 'display name' in Canvas. If anyone has trouble with that updating, they can submit a student helpdesk ticket. From what I've seen, it works rather well.

@vivie-sinou Hi Vivie, Thanks for this info. It is great that a student who enters a preferred name in MyDelta will have that name displayed. My question is about nick names or shortened names. For example, my student Steven prefers to be acknowledged as Steve. My student Tatiana prefers to be acknowledged as Tot. My students do not have these preferences as their preferred name in MyDelta. Correct me if I am wrong, the examples given here, my students, do not have the option to edit their display name in canvas.

Nicole - No, Canvas does not have a nickname feature. 

If students provide a preferred name in MyDelta, it will be used in Discussion posts in Canvas. For example, if  Tatiana has a Proper name of Tatiana Smith in MyDelta and Preferred name as Tot Smith, her discussion posts will be listed "from: Tot Smith."

@nicole - if anyone reports issues with their preferred name not showing up in Canvas, direct them to submit a ticket in our student help desk: https://pdcdeltacollege.com/de/canvas-student-help/
