Science Apps

Labster

Labster is the world’s leading platform for virtual labs and science simulations.

Students’ learning outcomes improve with Labster because we engage them with game-based elements that inspire them to explore science. Students then apply their knowledge to solve a real world problem within the context of a story. Inside the 3D environment of an immersive simulation, students master curriculum-aligned theory, interact with advanced equipment, learn techniques and perform experiments.

Labster makes an educator’s job easier, integrating with the most popular LMS (learning management system) platforms and freeing up their time by automatically grading quiz questions and providing them with a dashboard of student performance data.

ChemVantage

ChemVantage is a great resource for teachers and professors because it leverages your institution's learning management system (e.g., Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, Desire2Learn or Sakai) using the LTI standard. This allows your LMS to handle all passwords, role assignments and security. To connect your LMS to ChemVantage, please visit our LTI registration page. After registration, instructors can customize quiz and homework assignments for their classes using the instructor tools in each assignment.

Cost

With the exception of the placement exams, all of the basic fully functional ChemVantage services are completely free for students at public and nonprofit institutions:

  • Quizzes - completely free
  • Homework - completely free (but see optional subscription below)
  • Practice Exams - completely free
  • In-Class Polls - completely free
  • Video Quizzes - completely free

Placement Exams - Institutions may purchase placement exams for $1.00 USD per student or less, in quantities of 100 or more. Institutions may opt to require each student to purchase a placement exam individually for $6.00 USD. Placement exam retakes are free, if allowed by the settings in the LMS.

Subscriptions - Students may purchase an optional 6-month subscription for $5.00 USD that allows them to view the step-by-step detailed solution to each homework problem after solving it correctly.
For personal, small business and commercial accounts there is a registration fee, but all services are free after that.
